About Marina Nunez

Biography

American soprano Marina Renée Nuñez is an emerging artist who has been praised for her expressiveness, “rich and warm color,” and sparkling high notes.

This season, Ms. Nuñez returns to St. Petersburg Opera as a Resident Artist, where she sings the role of the Blue Fairy in Pinocchio and appears once again in the company’s beloved holiday production, Holiday Sparkle, performing seasonal favorites.

Recent highlights include performing Musetta (La Bohème) in scenes with St. Petersburg Opera, covering  Countess Charlotte(A Little Night Music), and appearing as Elle in a film adaptation of Poulenc’s La Voix Humaine with Tirgan Records and Killer Queen Opera. She was a fellow with Opernfest Prague, where she performed excerpts from Thaïs at the historic Divadlo Vinohradech, and made her cinematic debut as the title role in Poppea, an adaptation of Monteverdi’s opera. Ms. Nuñez also premiered the role of Older Sister in the New York premiere of Who Married Star Husbands with Four Corners Ensemble at the Polish Consulate General.

Additional operatic roles in Ms. Nuñez’s repertoire include Juliette (Roméo et Juliette), Mimì and Musetta (La Bohème), Donna Anna (Don Giovanni), Rosalinda (Die Fledermaus), Helena (A Midsummer Night’s Dream), Nedda (Pagliacci), Nella(Gianni Schicchi), and Contessa (Le Nozze di Figaro).

Equally at home on the concert stage, Ms. Nuñez has performed as soprano soloist in Mozart’s Requiem with the Masterworks Chorus of the Palm Beaches. She is a member of the Grammy-nominated Taylor Festival Choir, where she has been featured as a soloist in Bach’s Christmas Oratorio and as the Mother in Craig Hella Johnson’s Considering Matthew Shepard. Her recital appearances span the Czech Republic, Austria, Italy, and the United States, including performances with the Palm Beach Signature Chamber Series and Opera Doral’s Concert Series.

Ms. Nuñez is an alumna of the Castleton Festival Young Artist Program, International Vocal Arts Institute, Bel Canto Institute, and Miami Summer Music Festival. She earned her Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Michigan and her Master of Music degree from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. A recipient of the Francis B. Furlong Scholarship, she was also a semi-finalist in the 2015 International Czech and Slovak Competition.

When she is not performing, Marina enjoys hiking, reading, visiting art museums, and learning new languages.
